NutriScrolls is a nutrition reference for general information. It is not medical advice, and it does not replace a doctor or registered dietitian.
Not medical advice
Nothing on this site is a diagnosis, a treatment or a personal recommendation. Talk to a doctor or registered dietitian before you change your diet, start a supplement or stop a treatment. Never ignore professional advice, or delay getting it, because of something you read here.
What our pages are based on
Our pages summarise published research and official food composition and labelling data. Every number links to its source, and every study links to PubMed. A summary always leaves out detail, and research changes over time.
We work hard to keep the information accurate, but we cannot promise that it is complete or free of errors. You use it at your own risk.
Values are averages
Nutrient values are averages from databases such as USDA FoodData Central. Real foods vary with the variety, the soil, the season, storage and cooking. The food on your plate can contain more or less than the number shown.
% Daily Value is based on a 2,000 kcal reference diet for adults, as on U.S. food labels. The EU % Reference Intake uses the same 2,000 kcal reference adult. Your own needs depend on your age, sex, body size, activity and health.
Supplements and medicines
Supplements can cause side effects and can interact with medicines. Some foods can too, such as grapefruit with certain drugs, or foods rich in vitamin K with warfarin. Ask your doctor or pharmacist before you combine them.
Pregnancy, children and health conditions
Needs and safe limits are different during pregnancy and breastfeeding, for children, and for older adults. They also differ if you have a condition such as kidney disease, diabetes or a food allergy. In these cases, get advice from a professional who knows your situation.
In an emergency
If you think you or someone else has a medical emergency, call your local emergency number straight away. In the Netherlands and the rest of the EU, that number is 112. Do not use this site for urgent health questions.
Questions
We cannot answer personal medical questions. If you find an error on a page, the contact page explains how to report it.
